Stories Through Maps

Where did I start?

I started as a battle map when I had to switch to online play back in 2020. I just could not find maps that suited the D&D campaigns I was running at the time. They never quiet fit, always meant I had to adjust my session to the maps. Players walk around that dungeon corner, why is there a large pile of bones?

I progressed through several YouTube videos, on making maps with software like Dungeondraft, till I reached Clip Studio Paint. From here I tried out on the off chance of making maps for MAD Cartography as a freelancer, and now they are my largest Client. Beyond that I have some a little work for a couple of other clients one of which is DNDice.

As well as being versed in CSP, I know my way around VVTs like Foundry and Roll20, so I always keep their benefits and limitation in the back of my mind.

My Design Philosophy

Maps need to sell the location with out dictating their use. They need to be interesting, and jump out to the DM and players. This means they need meaningful story elements, what don’t provoke questions, like the above mentioned pile of bones. They should also make sense, does this work both as an encounter location, and could someone be living or working here.
